R154 was made by Toyota, Japan. This is a speed of 5 (5 speed back and forth). As with most Toyota powertrain components, R154 is a quality design and construction. Unfortunately, as always seems to be the case with modern technology, there is always the Achilles heal.

R154 is a conventional 5-speed gearbox with five forward gears and cut back right away. The reason for the power transmission is clearly seen even with the naked eye. External housing and the gear itself transfixed gearbox credible performance.
